Building works on and in proximity of Party Walls and other structures are covered by the Party Wall etc Act 1996. This stipulates by law that where work is planned on such, the owners are required to observe correct protocol by the giving and receiving of correct notices and the appointment of Party Wall surveyors to ensure that the full extent of work is agreed and likewise the terms under which the work will be executed. It is better to prepare for this requirement than wait for a dispute to occur.
